Wednesday, Feb 2:
Yesterday after we had breakfast in Fast Eddy’s restaurant (Boy, we were really treating ourselves!!!! Supper, showers and breakfast!!) we drove to the gas station (diesel is $4.99 a gallon) and grocery store (milk was almost $4!) then over to Dale Raito’s which is a beautiful little log cabin in the middle of an evergreen forest with great training trails. Dale and Lisa had gone to Georgia to visit her mother but a neighbor was there to watch the place and feed the dogs- he goes by the name “Mississippi” and that’s exactly what he sounds like! He moved up here and built himself a log cabin with an outhouse and no running water and is as happy as a clam. So he invited us in to have some moose burger with him from Dale’s freezer if I would cook – I had onions and potatoes that had frozen on the floor of the trailer so we had creamed onions and potatoes and fried mooseburger patties – delicious!!!
Today we have been up and fed dogs and next on the agenda is training my team and the same 2 teams of 12 that Randy trained when we got here yesterday. He said everybody looked and did good even with it being 16.5 miles for his team!!! We still have some dogs with diarrhea so yesterday we bought 4 bottles of Immodium! It’s good that they ran well even with a “bug” –
Thursday:
Up the crack of 8:30 and fed and dropped (no loose stools today – it’s amazing how excited you can get about feces!!!!) and then Mississippi helped us get the truck out of the driveway and back on the highway – the trip up to Arleigh Reynolds’ in Salcha was uneventful and we were happy to drop off Spot, the 75 pound-I-don’t-want-to-get-in-my-box dog and see Donna and their little girl Mia – what a beautiful log home!!!! I know it would be tacky but I was dying to be able to take pictures!! Now we are at North Pole at McDonalds to use wifi – next we will go to the dog track in Fairbanks and Jennifer Probert is picking up her dog there then we will feed and spend the night there and probably train tomorrow.
