Happy Birthday Bec!!!!! (my sister in Grand Rapids MI)

Diner was delightful! We didn't get reservations at the restaurant that Marie originally wanted but we did go to another Italian restaurant close to their hotel. From the outside it looked like an average strip mall place but once you walked inside it was like you were in a garden cafe in Italy! They had a classical acoustic guitarist that was very enjoyable - 3 of the 4 of us ordered lasagna and it sure didn't taste like the lasagna I make -very spicy! We had a bottle of red wine and before she ordered it I noticed the bottle was $55 ----- it was very very good and Marie was very gracious to have wanted to buy us dinner! We had lots of stories to share and talked quite a bit about Inuvik, where they live and I previously mentioned. The whole town is built on permafrost so no one of the 3000 persons has a basement, though there is a 100 foot deep storage chamber that was had dug long ago where anyone in the community can bring food/meat to store it like a natural freezer. All the homes are built on "stilts" or piles driven into the ground because if you try to heat your home sitting on the frozen permafrost ground you are fighting a losing battle! They have lots of wildlife including grizzlies (Marie saw 2 of them while she was out running one day and luckily a passing car picked her up so she was not attacked).
We didn't get home till almost 11 and then had to drop the dogs.

This morning up just in time to get our dogs fed and back in before the start of the one dog race - we tried so hard because we are parked about 50 feet from the start line and didn't want our dogs to be a distraction. As soon as the 7 dogs teams are in we will pull up to the starting area and hook up the 16 dogs that Randy wants to run 18 miles - we will see if I make it to the turn off with the car and walking/running in time to help him get the dogs to take the turn!!!
